As a kid it can be rough because your voice is maturing and you aren’t sure how to use your voice. However, reading this article is a step in the right direction to learning how to sing!

  1. You first need to figure out what type of music suits you best. Everyone is different, and it’s important that you know what genre fits your voice correctly. Try singing along to songs you like and seeing which ones are easiest and hardest to sing.
  2. After you have determined both of these you need to find a vocal coach or take singing lessons. This will help you with rough spots and help you improve.
  3. Do musicals and practice whenever you can. Practice is the key.
  4. Try looking up vocal exercises before you sing. They can help you sing much better before a show and get your voice in the right mood to sing!
  5. Don’t be discouraged if someone tells you your voice stinks. That only means you have room to improve!
  6. If you can record yourself in some way, do it! Any phones, cameras, or microphones can be used to record and listen to your voice. That way, you can give yourself feedback and realize what is good and bad about how you sing, instead of just having someone else tell you what you are doing correctly or incorrectly.
  7. Use certain singers as role models. Listen to how they sing and try to mimic that. However, try to make it your own sound!
  8. Put yourself out there and make a name for yourself! Take all the singing chances you can and let others know about it. This way, if you do make it to bigger things you will have experience with not only knowing your ranges and types of music but also handling crowds, choreography, and much more!
  9. Get a gig! A few ways to put yourself out there is to put videos on youtube, go to local cafes or restaurants to see if they need any help! Then you’re on your road to success once you’ve got the gig!
